Captain Lotto, published by Keowee Digital, LLC · Last updated 2 September 2026
The short version. Captain Lotto has no accounts and no logins. Your tickets, picks and history are stored on your phone, not on our servers. There are no analytics or advertising SDKs in the app. One feature — sharing scans to improve ticket reading — sends data to us, it is off unless you turn it on, and this page describes exactly what it sends.
Who we are
Captain Lotto is made by Keowee Digital, LLC. In this policy, “we” means Keowee Digital, LLC, and “the app” means the Captain Lotto app for iPhone and Android. You can reach us at Support.
What we do not collect
We think it is clearer to start here, because it covers most of the app:
- No account. There is no sign-up, no login, no email address and no password. We have no user records because there are no users to keep records of.
- No tracking or analytics. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no advertising identifier and no third-party tracker. We do not profile you and we do not sell or share data with data brokers.
- No location. The app does not request or use your device location. You choose your state from a list, and that choice stays on your phone.
- No contacts, calendar, or photo library. The camera is used only while you are scanning a ticket.
What stays on your device
These are stored locally, in the app's own storage, and are not sent to us:
- Scanned tickets, the numbers on them, and their photos.
- Saved picks, wheels, and your Pick settings.
- Your chosen state and time zone, home-screen layout, text size, sound and other preferences.
- Your pool profile, including any legal name you enter for a pool agreement.
- Whether you have unlocked the paid features.
Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also clear scanned tickets at any time from Settings › Scan photos, which also lets you set how long ticket photos are kept.
Scanning a ticket
Ticket scanning runs entirely on your phone, using the operating system’s own text recognition (Apple Vision on iPhone, Google ML Kit on Android). The recognition models are built into the app, so scanning works offline and the picture of your ticket does not have to leave the device to be read.
Checking a ticket against a drawing is also done on your phone. The app downloads the winning numbers and compares them locally, so it can tell you that you won without telling us what you played.
Sharing scans to improve ticket reading (optional, off by default)
Lottery tickets are printed differently in every state, and the only way to read them reliably is to see real ones. The app therefore offers a setting that shares your scans with us. It is off unless you turn it on.
There are two ways it can be on:
- Improve scanning. A toggle in Help. When it is on, a copy of a scan is sent only when you correct something the app read wrong — the correction is the useful part.
- Unlocking features by sharing. In some states the app offers Smart Pick and the Lotto Wheel for free in exchange for sharing your scans. If you accept that offer, a copy of every scan is sent, not only corrected ones. The offer says so before you accept it.
What a shared scan contains
- A photo of the ticket, with the barcode and any serial-number text blacked out before it is sent.
- The text the app read from the ticket, with the same serial-number lines removed from it, and the numbers it extracted.
- The drawing dates it found, the state and game you selected, and any errors it hit.
- The corrections you made, if any.
What it does not contain
- No account, name, email address or phone number — we have none of these.
- No device identifier and no advertising identifier.
- No location.
- No ticket barcode, and no serial number. Both are removed from the picture, stripped out of the text, and deliberately omitted from the data, because either one identifies a specific ticket purchase.
We use shared scans only to measure and improve how well the app reads tickets. We do not use them to identify you, and we do not sell them. You can turn sharing off at any time in Help; turning it off stops any further scans being sent.
Pools
A pool lets a captain buy tickets for a group and share them with the crew. Pool data does travel through our servers, so it is encrypted end-to-end: ticket images are encrypted on the captain’s device and can only be opened by members holding that pool’s key. The key travels inside the invite link you send to your crew and is never sent to us, so we hold encrypted data we cannot read. Pool ticket images are deleted automatically 24 hours after the drawing.
Members can verify a shared ticket by its barcode, which is what stops a captain from faking or double-submitting a ticket.
Captain Lotto never handles, holds or transfers money. When a pool settles up, the app hands you off to a payment app of your choosing — Venmo, Cash App or PayPal — and what happens there is between you, your crew and that service.
Lottery results
The app fetches current and historical drawing results from our server over an encrypted connection. These requests carry no account, no identifier and no information about your tickets — they ask for the winning numbers, nothing more. Standard web server logs may record the request and the originating IP address for a short period as part of ordinary operation and abuse prevention.
Purchases
Paid features are sold through the App Store and Google Play. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card number, billing address or any other payment detail. We only learn from the store whether a purchase for your device was completed.
If you have been given a support code (for example as a beta tester), the app remembers it in your device’s secure storage — the iOS Keychain or Android Block Store — so that Restore Purchases can bring your access back if you reinstall the app or move to a new phone. The code is checked against our server, which stores only a one-way hash of it, never the code itself.
Children
Playing the lottery is restricted to adults, and Captain Lotto is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Your rights
Because the app has no accounts, we hold almost nothing that is tied to you, and there is usually nothing for us to look up, export or delete on request. The data on your phone is yours to delete at any time, by clearing scan history in Settings or by deleting the app.
If you have shared scans and want them removed, write to us at Support. A shared scan carries nothing that identifies you, so please include enough detail for us to find it — roughly when you scanned it and in which state.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be described in the app.
